1747 Baron von Eisenberg / Bernard Picart Equestrian Hand Colored Horse Lithographs
A set of four hand colored Baron von Eisenberg illustrations originally engraved by Bernard Picart. Each lithograph is of a differently situated dressage horse and rider from Description du Manège Moderne by Friedrich Wilhelm, Baron Rais d' Eisenberg (German, 1700-1770). Engraved by Bernard Picart (French, 1673-1733). They are titled as follows: Titled "Le Pegase", "Le Hardi", "Le Leger", "Le Sage." Each has the accompanying plate number listed in the upper right corner. Matted in a beige linen, and framed in a silvertone and black wood frame. Artwork in frame measures 15" x 17.75". The matting has light toning, but art and frame overall in good condition with only minor wear.
These prints were originally part of an illustrated book Baron d'Eisenberg made describing the art of the cavaliers and depicting the different breeds of horses- The full title of the book is L'Art de Monter a Cheval: Description du Manége Moderne, Dans sa Perfection, published in Leipzig: Arkstée et Merkus, 1747).
