George Spencer Morris 1920 The Hilltop Farm Landscape in Gold Frame
George Spencer Morris (American, 1867-1922), a prominent late 19th / early 20th century Philadelphia area artist, was educated at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Drexel University, Haddonfield Academy, and the Westtown School. This pastel on paper piece, titled The Hilltop Farm, was exhibited at the Fellowship of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts Exhibition in 1920. The original tag from this show will come attached to the back of the painting. It also has the artist's home address listed. Several white farmhouses sit atop a gently sloping hill of many shades of green, and brown. Their bright blue roofs standing out beautifully against the muted tones of the rest of this landscape. Signed lower right. The art in frame measures 16.25" x 18.25". The art istelf is in very good, age appropriate condition. The custom gold, wood frame is in good condition with minor scratches and light wear. It is newly matted, and under glass.
