Sandor Bernath (American, 1892-1984) breathtaking watercolor painting of a racing yacht under full sail on the open seas. American flag waving up top. An incredible piece.
Bernath was a Hungarian-born artist who immigrated to the United States as a child. He is known for his stylized watercolor paintings of New England land, and seascapes. He studied, and exhibited with Edward Hopper. He was a student of the National Academy of Design. He was a member of the American Watercolor Society and New York Watercolor Club. He exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago (1923-1925, 1927), and the Whitney Museum of American Art (1923-1926), among others.
The artwork in frame measures 26" H x 26.75" W. It is signed lower left. It is framed in a distressed silver, wood frame. Artwork is in very good condition. Frame is intentionally distressed, but has some wear at corners.
